Change of direction

We are all seeking for happiness. It is the same for all but we just have different names for it. Some call it God, the Self, Love and many others.

The whole search for completion and contentment is programmed into us, it drives us. We cannot stop it even if we wanted to. This program is running constantly behind every action and behind every motive we have. Actually, it is the motive.

For me the whole point of a spiritual search has to do with the reprogramming of this program.

The first thing that needs to happen before the reprogramming can start happening is disappointment to what we already have. For me it happened in a form of a depression. A friend of mine who had everything, a family, house, cars felt simply that what he had was not enough and knew that even if he would get more it was not going to be enough. Maybe the question “who am I?” just pops up out of nowhere and changes everything like with another friend of mine.

Now, with reprogramming, I do not mean a change in one’s personality but a change in the way we seek for fullfilment. We need to realize that the things outside ourselves will not bring us anything final and stable. That any improvements in our personality will not do the trick. This will not happen immediately but with time, disappointment after disappointment.  We will see, slowly but surely, that the things we hold dear are not enough. It seems that in the program itself there is no problem, the problem is in the direction it is pointing in.

The process itself is simple, to keep at it is the hard part. There are be hard times, times of emptiness and depression but also times of excitement and inspiration. I believe that all it takes is a steady genuine desire for something meaningful.

Although the program seems to be otherwise on autopilot, it takes a constant reminder to change it’s direction. And that need work and patience.
